I hope you all are liking the exclusive DIYs so far. I am having so much fun with them! Next up, a DIY black, gold, and white pillow.
I currently have a yellow pillow in the guest room. I love it, but I feel like the room might need a change. So I thought let's start with a pillow. And boy what a difference a pillow can make. Here is the bedding with the yellow pillow. Which one do you like better? I haven't decided yet if it's going in the guest bedroom or the master. Hence you'll see it against the black and white bedding here. Do you like it on the white or black bedding? Enough about my decisions, let's get to making this pillow!
pillow insert (I used an old IKEA Ransby pillow insert that I measured to be 13 x 20, but I think the Fjädrar should work. You may have to adjust the measurements slightly.)
1 1/2 yards of gold fabric
2 yards of white fabric
1 1/2 yards of black fabric
sewing machine
Cut the following pieces of fabric:
1 white 9 1/2" x 13 1/2"
1 white 12 1/2" x 13 1/2"
2 gold 6 1/2" x 13 1/2"
2 black 5 1/2" x 13 1/2"
Sew together the 9 1/2" white, one of the gold, and one of the black pieces of fabric leaving a 1/4" seam with each stitch.
Next, sew together the other black and gold piece. Finish the exposed gold side with a 1/4" stitch. Next finish one side of the leftover white piece.
Pin the front side of the pillow you stitched together in the second step to the black + gold piece. Make sure to pin inside out lining up the colors. Next pin the white piece lining up the edges of the pillow and overlapping in the center. Flip the pillow right side out, and stuff with your insert.
Front
What I love about this pillow is it looks the same on the front and back. It would have been easier to just do the back in white fabric, but I think it looks higher quality this way.
Back
Can you see the finished edge flap on the back? It blends right in doesn't it?
Yellow pillow or this pillow? On top of white bedding or black bedding?
